The Group published a book about Pickworth in March 2009, with lots of information about the village - but there is much more to be discovered! The book has sold well and a new printing has been necessary. Available (£15) from Liz Machin: tel 01529 497060, themachins@googlemail.com. If you are interested in any of the following, or in other aspects of Pickworth, please join us:
Village life, as evidenced in early documents (we have copies of inventories from 16th to 18th centuries)
Records of St Andrews Church, from 1538 onwards
The story of your house
History of village families - from earlier to recent times
What do the Census records tell us? (The records are now becoming more accessible)
Changes in the local landscape, and lots of other topics
Local History Group 2nd Wednesday of Month – 2 pm; Norman & Celia 497291
Meets in the Village Hall at 10 am on 1st and 3rd Thursday of most months. Finish by 12.30 pm. A contribution of £3 pays for village hall expenses.
Laptops are provided but bring your own if you wish. There is currently no internet access but this may be available in the future. In the interim internet training sessions will take place at Hus House.
Each meeting generally starts with a ‘problem solving’ session followed by one or two specific skill training sessions. A list of planned sessions will soon be available. Suitable for beginners to experts.
