Pickworth in the 19th Century

Pickworth in the 19th Century

Census returns, trade directories and the Tithe Award documents (1845) have been used to build a picture of the pre-enclosure village and parish in the middle of the 19th century. Maps have been drawn to show the ownership, occupiers and land-use of every plot in the parish, providing material for comparisons with earlier and more recent times.

Trade directories of Pickworth and nearby villages show how far the villages depended upon each other for the services necessary in a rural economy.
